What is Ho’oponopono?

Description from Wikipedia;

  • Hoʻoponopono (IPA [ho.ʔo.po.no.po.no]) is a Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. The Hawaiian word translates into English simply as correction, with the synonyms manage or supervise, and the antonym careless. Similar forgiveness practices are performed on islands throughout the South Pacific, including Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti and New Zealand. Traditional Hoʻoponopono is practiced by Indigenous Hawaiian healers, often within the extended family by a family member. *

It is a practice that can help with limiting beliefs, letting go of the past and forgiving for your own sake. This can be very healing and uplifting.

The history:

  • Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona (May 19, 1913 – February 11, 1992) was recognized as a kahuna lapaʻau (healer) in Hawaiʻi and taught her updated version of hoʻoponopono throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe.

Mornah was a native Hawaiin born in 1913 owere both Hawaiin. Her mother was one of the the “kahuna laʻau kahea”  a healer who heals with words.

Mornah began to alter the ancient Ho’oponopono in 1976 to modernise it. She was influenced by her Protestant and Catholic education and also by her many philosophy studies in India and China. Another influence came from the spiritualist Edgar Cayce.

Her work moved the ancient healing practice toward the individual person and away from the traditional group participation.

  • Her system uses hoʻoponopono techniques to create a working partnership among the three parts of the mind or self, which she calls by Hawaiian names, as well as by the terms subconscious, conscious, and superconscious.*

For this, she was criticised at the time by Hawaiin purists.

After Simeona’s death in 1992, her former student and administrator, Ihaleakala Hew Len, co-authored a book with Joe Vitale called Zero Limits.

Zero Limits.                                                                              About the ancient healing art of Ho'oponopono

  • Modern Ho’oponopono is an adaptation of an ancient Hawaiian problem-solving technique that allows practitioners and subjects working with therapeutic or wellness providers to emotionally and mentally let go of conscious and subconscious memory.
  • Through a “ZERO LIMITS” cleaning process, developed by Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, practitioners are able to move past perceived reality and to the point of zero.

During this process, practitioners are able to remove limiting beliefs to help their clients move forwards.

This Ho’oponopono uses a four phrase mantra that when combined with a mindset shift, you’ll learn in this certification course, to clear,  the old memories and help us take back 100% responsibility for everything in our lives, good, bad, and indifferent.
